Summary

Since the death of his twin brother, Oliver’s caught between pleasing his fans and finding himself。 Emery finds him first。

Emery has never felt more alone。 Raising her daughter is both her pleasure and her pain as she struggles to hold on to her job as a bartender and keep a roof over their heads。 With no one to help them―no support system―any unexpected expense or late bill could turn their whole world upside down。

Reeling from the death of his twin brother and bandmate, rock star Oliver Smith is trying to drink his problems away。 Apparently he isn’t very good at it; they follow him wherever he goes。 Also in hot pursuit are the paparazzi, who catch Oliver at his lowest low。

He could have walked into any bar in California, but he walked into hers。 Emery helps Oliver lose the crowd, and they find themselves alone: two people whose paths are marked with loss and pain。 However, they hold an unshakable hope for healing。 They find solace together, but can their love withstand the world?

This is a story about the struggle of healing, and the beautiful parts that come with it。 Emery and Oliver became each other’s anchors, each other’s guiding light。 They were both plagued by so much sadness, they were each nearly drowning。 Barely afloat。 I felt like I was sinking with them。 Oliver knows no bounds when it comes to making sure Emery has everything she needs。 Taking away all her worries, standing by her side without any hesitation。 I have such a weakness for Oliver。 I want to be the one who asks him are you okay, but I’m more than happy that Emery gets to do it。 They may have a great bond, but nothing prepared me for the beautiful bond that effortlessly forms between Oliver and Reese。 My emotions were hanging on by a thread already, but when Oliver confessed his heart, forget it! I was a goner! I've found a new favorite artist in Brittainy Cherry! My Favorite Quotes:•”I don’t want someone more qualified。 I want you。”•”You’re so much more than just a chef。”•”(You) Make me feel like I belong。 No one has done that since my brother。”•’I think I start missing you each day before I even leave your side。’•”Ask me to be yours, and I’ll be yours。 If you let me stay, I’ll stay forever。”•”You’re my favorite song on my mixtape。”•”Mr。 Mith, you can do anything because you’re my best friend, and that means you can do anything。”•’I want to be here。’Make a playlist using the music from the book。 It’s worth it!7/10 Friends to Lovers6/10 Forced Proximity10/10 Tearjerker 。。。more

Beautiful This story had me crying, alot。 The courage and love that Emery has for her daughter made me ball。 As a mother, I understood her struggles with raising a child and having to put on a brave face for them even when your life is a mess。 With Oliver, I resonated so much with him because I too have depression and social anxiety。 What a beautiful book

Amazing As always Brittany has such a way with words。 She weaves such heartbreakingly beauty stories that then place you back together piece by piece。 A must read。

Awesome Read!!!This was the first work that I have read from this author。 This story was well written and explored many facets of the experience of overcoming mental health issues experienced by many。 Although the subject content was heavy, it did not take away from the story of Oliver and Emery。 The author was able to acknowledge their hurt but also showed the work it took fr them to overcome。 Also, the supporting characters were good, especially little Reese。 Good job Brittainy on this one and Awesome Read!!!This was the first work that I have read from this author。 This story was well written and explored many facets of the experience of overcoming mental health issues experienced by many。 Although the subject content was heavy, it did not take away from the story of Oliver and Emery。 The author was able to acknowledge their hurt but also showed the work it took fr them to overcome。 Also, the supporting characters were good, especially little Reese。 Good job Brittainy on this one and I look forward to reading some of your other works。 。。。more

This was one of the best books I've ever read, it was such an emotional reading for me and seeing oliver and emery helping each other throughout the book really touched me and brought a smile to my face alongside with tears and I may add that it happened a lot because I am a sensitive bitch and also there were moments that I just wanted to lay my arms around them and hug them tight。 By the end of the book my heart was full of joy and love for these characters。ps: I absolutely loved emery’s daugh This was one of the best books I've ever read, it was such an emotional reading for me and seeing oliver and emery helping each other throughout the book really touched me and brought a smile to my face alongside with tears and I may add that it happened a lot because I am a sensitive bitch and also there were moments that I just wanted to lay my arms around them and hug them tight。 By the end of the book my heart was full of joy and love for these characters。ps: I absolutely loved emery’s daughter and her interactions with oliver warmed my heart。 。。。more

this was。。。 surprisingly really beautiful。 and emotional on so many levels。 specifically a sad level。 this book deals with the loss of family, and family abuse, and it adressed these issues with a delicacy that reminded me a lot of seven days in june by tia williams。 i'm not usually a big musician romance person (like, a lot of the time i find it cringey) but this wasn't really a musician romance as much as it was a romance with a musician in it, and music as a central theme, and this was done r this was。。。 surprisingly really beautiful。 and emotional on so many levels。 specifically a sad level。 this book deals with the loss of family, and family abuse, and it adressed these issues with a delicacy that reminded me a lot of seven days in june by tia williams。 i'm not usually a big musician romance person (like, a lot of the time i find it cringey) but this wasn't really a musician romance as much as it was a romance with a musician in it, and music as a central theme, and this was done really well。 i would have given this five stars but i definitely felt that at times there was too much tell and not enough show and it took me a while to warm up to the story and the characters。 but this was really, really so beautiful。 。。。more

Oliver is lost after losing his twin brother。 On a chance encounter he meets Emory who will change his world not only by getting him out of his depression but her daughter Reese will steal his heart。 Overall it was a good read, with a few twists。

A perfect summer read! I could not put this book down。 The characters were great and the plot was gripping。 I wanted the best for Emery and little Reese but would it happen? This book was beautiful, it was raw, it was breathtaking。 This book is about love, about strength, about your darkest days and you happiest days。 It’s about all of us struggling with our mental health, all of those struggling to make it one more day。 CW: car crash, death, grieving, rape (not graphic), depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, toxic parents

Wow, I did not want this to end。 I want more to Emery and Oliver’s story。 Vibes I got while reading: “Confession of a Teenage Drama Queen” (but only 1 scene) and “Young and Hungry”。 But both of those are comedic and this story is not。 This is a story about grief and about healing from trauma。 It’s so beautifully written。 My little therapist heart was glowing from the therapy scenes and the progress each of the characters made。 Emery and Oliver’s love felt real。 And also so perfect。 Like I’m jeal Wow, I did not want this to end。 I want more to Emery and Oliver’s story。 Vibes I got while reading: “Confession of a Teenage Drama Queen” (but only 1 scene) and “Young and Hungry”。 But both of those are comedic and this story is not。 This is a story about grief and about healing from trauma。 It’s so beautifully written。 My little therapist heart was glowing from the therapy scenes and the progress each of the characters made。 Emery and Oliver’s love felt real。 And also so perfect。 Like I’m jealous and I want someone to love me the way Oliver cares for Emery。 。。。more

This story took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions。 The love Oliver and Emery had for one another was so lovely。 I would definitely recommend this book。

When I first started reading this, it seemed like predictable sappy insta-love drivel。 I almost stopped reading。 But then, it had some poignant moments dealing with issues it seemed like it was just going to skirt around at first, like race, mental illness, abuse, and generational patterns, and I was really impressed and got really into it。 And then it went back to being drivel, but this time with 2 of the worst-written and most awkward to read sex scenes I've ever read that seemed totally out o When I first started reading this, it seemed like predictable sappy insta-love drivel。 I almost stopped reading。 But then, it had some poignant moments dealing with issues it seemed like it was just going to skirt around at first, like race, mental illness, abuse, and generational patterns, and I was really impressed and got really into it。 And then it went back to being drivel, but this time with 2 of the worst-written and most awkward to read sex scenes I've ever read that seemed totally out of place。 。。。more

PredictableThe book was ok。 Totally predictable the whole time, but still an easy beachy type read。 A cute story about finding ways through darkness。

Andrea

Emery was a true inspiration, all the characters were。 This story is so worth reading for anyone who struggles with their mental health, as well as understanding what someone else goes through when struggling with it。

Right, so, where do I begin? The really religious parents, who use their beliefs to strike fear into their children。 It makes me ill。 I know it happens, but honestly it hurts my heart。 It hurts my heart to know Sammie was raped and it was seen as her fault。 I mean come on?! I did like the fact this book had POC of colour as the stars of the book, the fact no one - Black, White, Asian, Indian (etc) - is safe from the religious sanctimony。 The parents were POC, and absolutely bigoted beyond belief Right, so, where do I begin? I did like the fact this book had POC of colour as the stars of the book, the fact no one - Black, White, Asian, Indian (etc) - is safe from the religious sanctimony。 The parents were POC, and absolutely bigoted beyond belief。 It kind of brought me some awareness that it doesn’t just stem from the white religious culture。 I’m not saying all white people, who practice religion are bigots either, but it’s more televised that they are。 Overall I genuinely think this is a good story, it deals with depression, acceptance, substance misuse, religious bigotry, and the list goes on。 I just wish that the parents got what they deserved and Emery handed their asses to them, because the mother always seemed to have the last word, and that annoyed me。 。。。more
